About Us

Welcome to Studio 256 The Yarn Shop, where we believe that every skein of yarn has a story to tell (and probably a few puns to share)! Founded in the whimsical year of 2021 by yours truly, Derrick & Heather Edwards, we’re a cozy little nook in Wadesboro that’s all about high-quality yarns and crafty shenanigans. If you’re looking for Circulo or Berroco, or Noro, you’ve hit the jackpot, my friend!

Our mission? To sprinkle a little yarn magic into your life! We’re not just here to sell yarn; we’re here to inspire creativity, one stitch at a time. We’ve curated a selection that’s as diverse as a box of chocolates (and just as sweet!). From sustainable materials to textures that make your fingers tingle with excitement, we’ve got everything you need to turn your wildest crafting dreams into reality (or at least into a really cool scarf).

At Studio 256, we’re all about community, creativity, and a good dose of laughter. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newbie who thinks “knit one, purl two” is a secret code, we’ve got your back. So come on down, grab some yarn, and let’s get crafty together! Who knows? You might just leave with a new project, a few giggles, and a heart full of inspiration!

Wow!  I needed community and I got it.  We are a store with a heart to teach these lost arts.  I knit for therapy and while I make amazing things sometimes; it soothes my mind and body.  This shop is not just for me it is for you.

I started knitting in 2019 with needles.  I had help from my husband Derrick to cast on because I was having great difficulty.  He is my rock and supports everything I throw at the wall.  We have a son, Garrett that also supports this community of the arts.

The yarn shop started in 2021 with the karate dojo in the same shared space until I outgrew the space and moved to where I am now.  I was so excited for the classroom spaces and have continued to add to the space different aspects of the fiber arts.  I went into the shop really not really knowing much and I do not know that much about all fiber arts but I do love supporting the farmers and artists out there.

We host Crafty Summer Camps, Crafty Teacher workdays, Afterschool Meetups for all ages, workshops for so many different things you may have never knew you would need in you life.
